How it works
The percentage calculator covers three everyday operations: X% of a number, what percent one number is of another, and the percentage change between two values.
For "X% of Y" multiply Y × (X/100). For percentage change: (new − old) / old × 100 — positive means an increase, negative a decrease.
Example: 20% of 150 is 30. An increase from 40 to 50 is +25%.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find X% of a number?
Multiply the number by the percent divided by 100. E.g. 15% of 200 = 200 × 0.15 = 30.
How is percentage change calculated?
(New value − Old value) / Old value × 100. The sign shows whether it is an increase or a decrease.
What is the difference between percentage change and percentage points?
Change is relative to the starting value, while percentage points are the plain difference between two percentages (e.g. from 10% to 12% = +2 points).
